Welcome- Our Aims

Blackburn Local History Society was formed in May 1989 and aims to promote interest in the history and heritage of the Blackburn area, and to encourage and publish historical research of local interest.

The Society holds regular meetings, usually on the last Tuesday of each month.

In the summer months (May-August) these meetings are usually held outside and take the form of either a visit to a property of historical interest, ranging from breweries to stately homes, or a member-guided tour of a local area of historical interest.

Meetings between Sept-April are held indoors at Blackburn Central Library, Town Hall Street, Blackburn (see details on our forthcoming meetings). All of our "indoor" meetings feature a guest speaker covering a topic of local historical interest.

Our Society is a partner in Cotton Town - click here to search the resources.

A Society newsletter is produced 3 times per year and the Society
endeavours to publish it's Journal and other relevant material on an
        irregular basis.

Annual membership costs just £5.00 for which members receive a
copy of each newsletter, the Journal and free admission to lectures
        during our winter programme.
